Mrs C. H. Gillespie, sister of Mr W. Cross of Alf redton, died in Wellington, on Wednesday afternoon last. i Mr Liomax, the well-known hotel broker, of Wanganui, arrived in Masterton last evening, and will be staying for a few days at the Ciub Hotel. The friends of Mr and Mrs J. Yarr will regret to lear# that Mrs Yarr has not been enjoying good health i lately.. Their departure for Napier has been delayed owing to Mrs Yarr's indisposition. Captain A. B. Charters, of the Greytown Rifles, has resigned his commission. Sergeant C. James, of the Wanganui Guards, has been awarded the Colonial Auxilary Forces long-ser-vice medal. His lengh of service is over twenty years. Miss Mason, Gladstone, has been appointed by the Education Board to the charge of Te Whiti School, vice Um Turner, resigned. Mr Edward Henry Featon, an old and highly-respected resident of Gis--borne, died on Tuesday. Mr Featon landed in New Zealand in 1860. He saw service in the Waikato, and was awarded the New Zealand medal and the loug-service colonial medal for eighteen years' volunteer duty.
