Hirst opened the attack. Macalister, playing forward, placed the second ball in Myers' hands at short leg. One for nil. Rhodes removed Bardsley's 13g stump at 1. Noble was dismissed by a running catch at long off. The third wicket fell at 40. Hansford played a vigorous, resourceful game, marred by two chances. He was missed at the wicket by Hunter when 4, and by Radcliffe at mid-on at 16. At two o'clock rain stopped play, and continuing caused the abandonment of the match.
