RUST IN POTATOES.

TASMANIAN SHIPMENTS CONDEMNED.

Received June 23, 9.43 a.m. SYDNEY, June 23

The prevalence of brown and dry rust in Tasmanian potatoes led to the Department of Argiculture empowering inspectors to condeman tubers suffering from these diseases. This is havinga considerable effect on the supply, and causing uneasiness regarding the future. Out of fifteen thousand bags which arrived on Monday, two thousand have been condemned, and the inspection is not yet completed. Local growers on the North Coast, who last year obtained seed from Tasmania, also find their crop seriously infected with rust.
