CRICKET.
AUSTRALIA v. YORKSHIRE. Received June 22, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, June 21. The match of the Australian cricketers against Yorkshire began to-dty at Bradford. Showers fell yesterday, but the weather £to-day was warm, and the wicket in fair condition.
The Yorkshire captain won the toss, and elected to bat, Rhodes and Wilson opening to the bowling of Laver and Armstrong. The batsmen were lively from the jump, and knocked up 49 runs in forty-five minutes.
Macartney going on, Wilson was stumped in his first over. Denton followed. At 61 rain stopped play for twenty minutes. Noble had a try with the ball, but was severely punished, 11 being knocked off one over. Resuming, Rhodes added a couple, and was then smartly caught by Laver off his own bowling. Rhodes played an excellent lively innings,leg hitting six fuurers. Two for 71. The third wicket fell without [addition to the score; Wilkinson succumbed in the second over, playing forward to Laver. After luncheon, Hirst filled the vacancy, and jilay continued brisk. The century appeared after ninety minutes' play. Hirst knocked three fourers off Cotter's first over, but in his second over was snapped up by Armstrong at slip. Four for 100 — Denton 27. Rothery made a short stay, Cotter finding his wicket when he had made two, the fifth wicket falling tor 108. Cotter and Macartney bowled after the tea adjournment. Cotter's deliveries, opening wild, afterwards came steadier. Macartney, keeping a fine length, succeeded in restraining Denton's run-getting. His half-century took ninety-five minutes, Myers backing him by sound , steady playAt 154 duskiness and rain stopped play for twenty-five minutes. On resuming, the batsmen made up for lost time by knocking 24 off three overs. The second century appeared after one hundred and eighty-five minutes' Dlay, Denton's century taking ona hundred and seventy minutes. The light was variable. Myers, after a sound, chanceless innings, lasting one hundred and fifteen minutes, lost his wicket in playing back to Noble. Six for ,245.

Denton gave a masterly and stylish display, •' hitting all round the wickct. He did not give a chance, though he became careless after reaching the century. He batted 195 minutes, and hit 19 fours. The seventh wicket was down at 255, and the eighh at L!7O. Carter, by a smart catch at the wickets, accounted for Newstead. Nine for 275. The innings lasted 280 minutes. The attendance was 8,000.
