NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N , June 22. The seventh Show of the National Dairy Association was opened today by the Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister of Agriculture. The greatest number of milking machine exhibits ever brought together in the Dominion are shown, and the machinery exhibits include all the latest improvements in dairy machinery. "The champion class in apples, six varieties, open to the whole Dominion. drew 20 entries. J. Cushing, of Clive. was first; F. W. Mayo, of Palmerstou North, second; and the Stoke Fruitgrowers' Association, of Nelson, third. The display in this class wa3 probably the finest ever got together in the Dominion. The Minister of Agriculture was particularly impressed with the great quality of the apples, and said that the collection was the finest he had ever seen anywhere.
Root crops are also a magnificent display. The Luxford Shield for best collection of field roots was won by W. J. Balsillie, Slack Bros, being second, and. P. Lancaster third. Mr Cuddie, speaking of butter and cheese exhibits, said thac they were of excellent quality, the cheese being especially good.
The school exhibits were comprehensive, and the Department of Agriculture has a very large show cevering all phases of agricultural life. It is the best display ever put together by the Department, and created much interest.
Taken as a whole, the dairy show is one of the greatest achievements of the kind yet arrived at in the Dominion.
