CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Saturday. Miss Scott, of the teaching staff of the local High School, resumed duty' this week, having been absent several weeks on sick leave.

Two prohibition orders were issued, by consent, in the Police Court this morning, by Justices of the Peace. Two delegates from the local Gun Club will proceed to Greytown on Thursday evening, and confer'with delegates from the other Wairarapa Gun Clubs on the proposal to form a central club. Mr E. Phelps, of Matarawa, was seriously injured while playing for the Featherston Liberals in the football match against Te Or«s Ore. He collided with another player a few minutes before the game ended, and received a severe wound below the right eye. Medical aid was obtained, and fortunately it was found that no bones had been broken. Mr J. O'Meara has presented a handsome silver jug to the Rifle Volunteers for competition in a Morris tube match. Lectures are to be delivered after each parade during the winter evenings, the first of which was given last evening. Private Martin has been appointed corporal, and Private Hall sergeant. Three team 3 of local Boy Scouts held a race from Greytown to Carterton this afternoon, the result being as follows:—No. 1 team, 39min; No. 2 team, 39Jmin; No. 3 team, 43min.
