(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. This afternoon a successful run of the Woodlands Hunt Club "was held at Konini over the properties of Messrs C. Avery and Robertson. Owing to the heavy rains on Tuesday morning the ground was somewhat slippery, and a few of the riders had spills, but none was seriously injured. There were a large number nf spectators, including several ladies. The following took part in the meet: —The Master (Mr Rodney) on Hippo; Mr Buchanna<-, Deputy Master, on Vindictive; Huntsman. Mr Russell, on Maringa; Whip, Mr W. Halliday, on John Paul; and JVlessrs G. Main (Royal Star), P." Halliday (Bezique), J. Parrell (Gamefish), L. Jonansen (No Hope), N. Avery (Lady Una), S. Whyte (Nomad), Pntchard (Nevina), C. Arrow, sen. (Atahua). Arrow, jnr. (Belladonna), J. Sweeney (Golden Days), G. Ranby (All Gold)-, N~Baildon (Tyranic), W. Singleton (Rapid), A. E. Brown and J. Mc- - Nicol both on bays. There were two lady riders who followed, Miss Matthews on Flamingo and Miss Howard on Princess. <& Tickets in connects.l with the local Fire .Brigade's nrt unioi »r selling well, and as the fire brigade is a very deserving institution it is to be hoped that the Brigade's funds will conaidsrably benefit by the art union. A very successful Catholic social was held at Woodville last evening, and during an interval Father T. McKenna presented Mr and Mrs Brosnahan with a handsome writing desk from the Catholics of Woodville, and on behalf of the Sunday School, he presented Miss Brosnahan with a silver backed brush. Mr Brosnahan brefly responded. A meeting of tne executive of tne Pahiatua Central Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will be hold on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. On Saturday next the Pahiatua and Palmerstou North Golf Clubs will play a match at Palmerston North. Roller skating is now the popular : evening amusement in this town. Two drag loads of members of the local "Foresters" journeyed to Eketahuna, this afternoon. A football match between the two Lodges will take place on the Eketahuna ground, and in the evening the visitors are to be entertained. In Banner matches on Saturday next a great tussle promises to take place between the tyireaha and Konini football teams on the former's ground. Konini will be represented by the following:—Bain, Benge, Bisset, Farrell, Gregory, Hawkes, Henry, Hirst. Reeve, Smith (3), Stewart (2) and Verry; emergency, Singers.
Although we are nearirig the shortest day, feed is plentiful all over this district, and all classes of stock look in tip-top condition, wnile the outlook for the sheep market for the coming season is promising. A well-known sheepfarmer informed me that he had already had an offer made him for his cull ewes next season. The Pahiatua Debating Society will hold a social at an early date.
