Keir-Hardie, Labour member for Merthyr, declares that if a lockout occurs in the South Wales collieries the fight will be, not for an eight hour day and a minimum wage of six shillings, but for the nationalisation of coal mines.

Mr Hardie urged French, Belgian and German miners not to supply the English markets during the struggle.
