Mr G. Burton, secretary of the Wellington Hospital, has resigned ' owing to ill-health.
Dean Harper, of Christchurch, who has been in indifferent health lately, proposes to take a trip to Mexico shortly and will be away from New Zealand for several months. Two members of the House, Mr Craigie (Timaru) and Mr Vigor Brown (Napier) possess the unique treble record of being member for the district, mayor of the borough, and chairman of the local Harbour Board.
Mr W. T. Wood, ex-M.P., i=>. says a Press Association telegram from Palmerston North, to receive a purse of sovereigns' on Friday night. The Hons. T Mackenzie, Carroll, and Ngata, and a large number of members of Parliament, wiP be present.
A brass tablet has bsen erected in All Saints' Church, Foxton, over the fatnilv pew of the late Mr E S. Thynne, a former proprietor of the Manawatu "Herald." The wording is as follows:—"To the glory of God, and in memory of Ernest Stephen Tn;nne, died February 20th, 1903. Erected by his family. R.1.P." After thirty years' service, Mr S. C. Bsrraud, who has been manager of the Lower Hutt branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will retire at the end of the month on superannuation. Mr Barraud is a native of Wellington. He has been in the service of the bank in various parts of New Zeahnd, and in 1879 took up hi> duties a,t the Hutt. A cable message has been received by a local resident, writes the OpoliKi corespondent of the New Zealwid "Herald," announcing the death of the Hon. F. B. Sewell, on 31st May. at Iponi, in the Federated Malay States, at the age of 57 years. The late Mr Sewell came out to the colonies in H.M.S. Blanch, and was invalided in New Zealand. Mr Sewell subsequently joined the Government staff, and was for a number of years engaged in survey work in Westland. Later on he came to the North, and settled in the Raglan district, where he carried on surveying and civil engineering and also acted aa county engineer. From - Raglan Mr Sewell went to Opotiki, on account of his health, under appointment to the Whakatane County Council, as county engineer, and from 1897 he acted in a similar capacity for ths Opotiki County Council, till hi i departure from the district for the Malay States, a few years ago.
