PERSONAL.
Mr D. C. Henderson, who has for the past three years been on the staff of the Martinborough branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received advice of his transfer to Wellington. Mis 3 Rosina Buckman, the wellknown New Zealand vocalist, and Mr Philip Newbury, tenor, are members of the company which is accompanying Ben Gough, the celebrated Canadian caricaturist an d entertainer, in his tour of Australia and New Zealand. .
One of the old Te Awaite whalers, Mr Joseph Toms, died suddenly while on his way to Picton from Te Awaite on Friday last. Deceased, who was 55 years of age, leaves a family of five daughters and three sons. His father was one of Barrett's original whaleboat crew in 1822, when Barrett founded the whaling settlement of Te Awaite, in Tory Channel There has been erected in Karori Cemetery a handsome monument to the memory of Mrs Jacobs, late stewardess of the s.s. Penguin, who was drowned at tha wreck of that vessel on February 12 th. The monument consists of a large marble scroll, resting on a base of marble and concrete, ar:d is enclosed by a keibing finished off in cement plaster. An appropriate inscription concludes with the epitaph, "Wearer my God to Thee."
