RACING-. TURF NOTES. v (By "Zetland')'. The hurdle horses Sen Sim and Indian Mutiny have joined Mr J. Cress' team. The first named is galloping in a convincing style on the track j and should be ready to race in the near future. The Conqueror mare Swallow, trained at Tauherenikau, is to be thrown out of work for the winter. She will, however, be rid Jen about and kept 011 hard feed, so may be found racing again in the spring. A. Watson has !n work at Opaki a filly by Merriwee-Bluewater, therefore a half-sister to Submarine. The cross country horse, Kuranui, is being put through a preparation at Opaki. The Penrose gelding will probably be a competitor at some of the steeplechase meetings during the winter. The Opaki tracks are in splendid order just now, probably better than they have ever been at this time of the year. The number of horses in work is greater than is usual in the winter months. The schooling of Silken Rein over hurdles is to be commenced next week. If she proves capable in negotiating the obstacles the Saracen mare may compete in hurdle events at the Wellington Winter Meeting. At Opaki yesterday morning serviceable work was executed on the plough by Lucretius, Over Rats, Rose Herald, Merrie England filly, Moloch, : Merriwee filly. Retinue, Matira, Sen Sim. Indian Mutiny, Skye and Kuranui. Pukewai and Campaign put in a fast fiva furlongs together and First Consul, the San Fran —Ziska filly, skipped over two furlongs from a barrier start.
