.[ (From Our Resident Reporter). L > Friday. Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., met in the Foresters' Hall last evening. After three new members had,been initiated into the Order, and ordinary routine business had been transacted, the installation of officers for the ensuing half year took place. The following were installed by the District President, Bro. Payne, of E'almerston North £ —A.D., Bro. J. Swiggs; V.A., Bro. J. H. Hall; A.D.B.'s, Bros. Finch and Hepburn; V.A.B.'s, Bros. Morris and Jacques; 1.G., Bro. H. W. Hall; 0.G., Bro. W. Yule; Treasurer, Brn. J. Trezise* Secretary, Bro. Wilton. Bru. Burke s ■name was placed on the minute bcok as a Past Secretary. After the ceremony refreshments were partaken of, and a social evening spent. Bro. Page urged the Brethren present to maintain the welfare of the Lodge, and congratulated the members on their not having liquor in the Lodge at socials, as without such the tone of • the Lodge was considerably improved. : -Mr C.Evans, who is rejoining the firm of Dalgety ana Co., left for -Fielding by to-aay's express to take • charge of the firm's Fielding Branch. A nockey mntch between th* Kbnini Ladies' Hockey Club and the • Pahiatua District High School girls will take place at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The hockey match between the Dannevirke A and Woodville resulted • in a win for the former by 4 goals to nil. Mr R. Lee, the Chairman of the Education Board, was on a visit to Pahiatua to-day, and this afternoon . gave an interesting address to the teachers and scholars of the higher classes of the District High" School on the "Roman Empire." Mr Lee, interviewed in regard to the new school and sit?, stated that he thought the'site a splendid one, and when the grounds were levelled off, fenced, metalled, etc., tha s'pot would be much preferable to the old site, as it was high and dry, and a nice distance from the busy centre of J-the town. He was also very pleased with the buildings. ; That skating is the favourite evening amusement in this town is very evident by the large number of both sexes who indulge in this healthy pastime. On Monday next a new spkating rink is to be opened in the large Drill Hall in Wakeman street. This building has a rate floor, and should be an admirable building for the amusement. A football team from the local Foresters will journey to Eketahuna. on Wednesday next, to play a friendly game with the Eketahuna Foresters.
