NEW ZEALAND TEAM DEFEATED. Received June 10, 1.25 a.m. SYDNEY, June 9. The Metropolitan team defeated the New Zealand professional team by 27 points to Ik. In the first half of the game the local players had all the best of it, the visitors scoring a penalty goal arid a try against 14, points by their opponents. In the second half the Metropolitan team had the advantage for a considerable time. Then the New Zealanders got in some hot play, scoring several times quickly. WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. WELLINGTON, June 9. The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union decided tonight to play Auckland representatives at Wellington on August 28th. Taranaki is to be asked to play Wellington, at Wellington, on August 4th. A line umpire was warned off all grounds under the Union's jurisdiction for having had a wager on a match in which he officiated. A player was suspended for rough play.
