STEWARDESSES MEMORIAL.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 8. A meeting of the women interested in the Penguin Stewardesses Memorial was held this afternoon. The chairwoman, Mrs J. P. Luke, said that, the subscriptions totalled a little over £B6. It had been the object of the promoters to found and maintain a bed in the Wellington Hospital, but funds would not permit of this. It was decided that the money be equally divided between the Home of Compassion, the Salvation Army Home, Levin Memorial Home and St. Mary Children's Home. This would ensure a bed at any time for the children of stewardesses or seamen who would be given preference before others. Above each bed it is proposed to hang a tablet setting forth that the beds are in memory of the late Mrs Hope and Mrs Jacobs.
