C. , Ewington and J. H. Pauling. Cr Pauling said that the deputation merely desired the pushing on of the ' preparatory work being done in con- ' nection with the matter. Cr Ewington said the deputation anticipated that at the present meet--1 ing of the Council plans and estimates would be ready, and these might b? discussed. The County Chairman (Cr Welch) said that his Council's Engineer (Mr D. McLacblan) had promised to have j plans and estimates ready for that meeting, but thay had not yet been brought before the Cjuncil When they were the Council would notify the Borough Council of the fact, and generally acquaint the Borough r_presentatives of the position of affairs. The deputation thanked the Council and withdrew. The County Engineer's repori recieved later at the meeting contained the following extract:--"! have made the necessary survey for obtaining »n estimate of the cost of reforming and bridging the northern approach. The bridging includes the spanning of both streams with 36ft spans on concrete piers; the waterway on the Borough boundary requiring four spans and the truss bridge to be substituted by five like spans. The roadway to bridges to be 24ft wide with two side footways ot 6ft each. The stringers and decking to be of Australian hardwood; the sideways and handrails to be of totara. Each span is calculated to carry a distributed load of 60 tons. It is proposed to form the roadway between the bridges and to the junction of roads to the full width of the reserve. The roadway of this length would be 55ft with two paths of 12ft each. The Te Ore Ore branch would be 62ft with to footpaths of 10ft; the Opaki branch, which is only one chain wide ( formation 46ft with two paths of 10ft. It is proposed to metal the whole roadway with an eieht-inch layer of river shingle, broken to a two and a half inch gauge. The footpaths to be metalled with a four inch layer of fine shingle and sand. I purpose reducing the grades on these cuttings to 1 in 34, this being the maximum grade on the work." The Council briefly discussed the matter, the Chairman being of opinion that the report should properly be discussed by the committee set up by the two Councils, who could report to their respective Councils on the matter. It was ascertained from the minutes that buch an arrangement was not necessary. Cr H. O. Toogood moved that the whole Council be a committee to discuss the County Engineer's report, the committee to meet at 2 p.m. on the 19th inst., four to form a quorum. This was seconded by Cr R, F.
