PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Oar Resident Correspondent). HOCKEY. KONINI v. EKETAHUNA. The Konini v. Eketahuna teams met on the Eketahuna ground on Thursday last, Konini winning by three eoals to nil. Konini attacked from the bully-off, and after a scramble in front of Eketahuna goal Mi3S Stewart scored. Almost immediately afterwards, a combined rush l»y the Konini forwards saw Miss E. Bisset register the second goal. Konini continued to press, but were unable to pierce the defence. At half time the score was—Konini, 2; Eketahuna, 0. On changing ends play was carried into the Eketahuna territory, and Miss Hirst scored Konini's third goal. The game now became more even, each side attacking in turn. Time waa called without further score. The winning team all played well, but Misses K. Bisset, R. Warren and Stewart, were specially prominent, while Misses Hughes and Ander- , son were the pick of the Eketahuna • team. Mr Reeves was referee. GENERAL. Th 6 new Pahiatua Gulf Links were - opened yesterday. At the invitation of the President (Mr Norton) over 70 friends and golfers were present, the majority being ladies. Friendly games were played during the after- - noon, and afternoon tea was provided ,•* by the President in the Racecourse diningroom, and in this respect, Mr Mra and Miss Norton proved themselves splendid hostesses. At present - the links are in splendid order. A . Ladies' Golf Club has been formed with Miss Warren Captain. Amongst the visitors yesterday afternoon was the Countess of Mountcashell and the Mayoress (Mrs D. Crewe). The Pahiatua County Council meet to-morr6w (Saturday) morning. A social in connection with the Hukanui School will be held in the Hukanui Hall on Friday evening next. The Mannatainoka Junior football team travelled to Woodville yesterday and played the Woodville Juniors. The game ended in a draw, both sides scoring three points. Tomorrow afternoon the Juniors play "> JNireaha on the Domain, and the Seniors (have a bye. Mr A. Kerrison, of Mangatainoka, met with an accident yesterday. He ■was handling a young horse when it , palled back and jammed his hand against a post, taking the flesh off • the top of two fingers, necessitating medical attention. The weather we .have experienced during the past few weeks has been exceptionally good, and the manager of a local factory remarked this morning mat the quantity of milk supplied to the various factories was marvellous for this period of the year as compared with the same month in former years. , A football match is being arranged J between the Druids and Foresters for Wednesday next. On the following j Wednesday the local Fore3ters will journey to Eketahuna and play the Eketahuna Lodge. The Pahiatua Borough Council will meet in the Council Chambers on Monday evening next. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees will be held in the same place on Tuesday evening. « The newy formed Ladies Hockey Club, which has been named the "Huia Club," held a successful practice yesterday in Mr Geo. Oxley's ground. There were about twenty ladies present, and afternoon tea was provided by several members of the Club. Some of Hie oij-paintings to be given as prizes in connection with the local fire brigade's art union are at present on view in some of the shop windows. The paintings are splendidly mounted and the largest are over five feet wide, and three feet high. The drawing for the paintings (15 in number) will take place on July 14th.
