TERRIBLE PICTURE
THE HERERO REBELLION. WAR AND PESTILENCE. THE DEATH ROLL. Received June 4, 8.10 a.m. LONDON, June 3. Mr Douglas Young, British viceConsul, in his annual report on German South West Africa, has presented a terrible picture of the Herero rebellion. From 1905 till 1907 it is estimated that 120.000 native men, women and children perished. There were 76,000 victims. of war and pestilence in the famine year ending in March, 1907, alone. The Consul adds that the remembrance of this' terrible mortality is likely to restrain the present generation from renewing hostilities with the ptotecting Power.
