The match of the Australian cricketers against Cambridge University began to-day, at Cambridge. was bright at the start, but became dull and windy at 4 o'clock. Three thousand spectators wei® present. M'Alister won the toss, Trumper and Bardsley opening. A fine partnership ensued. Fifty was rattled on the board in 25 minutes, Trumper driving and leg hitting, and Bardsley hitting all round the wicket, •while his off driving was brilliant. The first wicket fell with the score at 122. Bardsley bntted for 75 minutes, and his score included nine fourers. Ransford and Gregory made only a brief stay, the third wicket being down for 142. When Trumper had made 18 he was nearly stumped, and then played back to slow balls, the Sydneyite playing excellent cricket. Hartigan and Macartney were got cheaply, the fifth wicket falling for 162. Trumper, after a chanceless, brilliant innings, was taken by Tufnell wide on the off side. He batted for 160 minutes, 19 fourers being included in hi<» score. M'Alister was playing steadily. Six for 228. A splendid right handed'catch at second slip disposed of Carkeek, and the eighth wicket fell at 248. M'Alister showed faultless play. O'Connor' with vigorous hitting, brought the third century up. Then, with the total at 307, Whitty knocked up an easy one, and ended the innings, which had occupeid four hours.
