RaMLBERS v. CELTIC. A match was played on the Show-; grounds, Masterton, yesterday after- * noon, between the Ramblers and Celtic (Wellington) Ladies' Clubs. The weather was fine, and there was I a large attendance of the public. The game was an. interesting one, and although beaten the visitors put up a splendid fight, the Jocal team gaining I their victory through fast forward 'play and good passing, combined with solid defence un the part of the i backs. The Celtics have some very I good players in their ranks, and with a little more practice together they should prove a hard team to beat. The following w*re the teams: — Ramblers: Misses K. Evans, J. Scott, M. O'Toole, M. Reed, N. O'Leary, M. McCalmont, K. O'Leary, W. Logan, E. Kyle, F. Duggan, C. Easthope. Celtic: Misses L. Strickland, Melsop, Perry, M. Bradley, Sheehy, Breen, Famer, Hoskings, Lawlor, I. Thompson, J. Murphy. Ramblers won the toss and played with the sun behi-d them. Play had only been started a few minutes when from a forward rush Miss EastI hope scored for Ramblers. Almost j immediately after Misses Kyle, Easthope and N. O'Leary attacked the visitors' goal again with the result that the latter scored. Put on their mettle the Celtics led by Misses Bradley, Famer, Lawlor and Murphy, indulged in some pretty passing, but Misses O'Toole and Scott drove them back, and some good defensive work by Misses Melsop and Strickland prevented the home team scoring. Though Misses Bradley, Perry, Melsop and Strickland fought hard to stave off the onslaughts of the Rambers their efforts were hopeless for the latter's fo'rwards swarmed round the goal, and Miss K. l O'Leary scored. Just before half time Miss 1 Easthope scored again, and the spell 1 ended with the home team leading by four goals to nil. The second speW was much more keenly contested, and some good hockey jwas shown by both sides. Ramblers attacked repeatedly, Miss N. O'Leary, Easthope, K. O'Leary, Duggan, Kyle and Logan, often carrying play to (he peltic's goal, but the visitors' defence was good,
Misses Bradley, Strickland, Melsop, Perry and Sheehy showing up conspicuously in this respect. The home team had the best of the play and erratic shooting tost them at least three goals. Only one goal was obtained in the spell, Miss Duggan scoring after a good piece of play on the part of all the home forwards. On two occasion the visitors were within the ace of scoring, Misses Murphy, Thompson and Hoskings on one occasion setting up a determined attack, and Misses Bradley, Breen, Hoskings and Famer on another; nut the defence of the home team was too sound. Time was called with the score—Ramblers, 5 goals; Celtic, nil. Mr B. Iveson wan referee. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the local team, and were highly delighted with their outing. \_ The Huia Ladies' Club (Master ton) wer» defeated at Wellington yesterday by the Wellington Ladies Club by 3 goals to 1. Hinemoa (Carterton) defeated St. John's (Petone) at Carterton yesterday by 3 goals to nil. At Petone yesterday, St. Matthew's beat St. Augustine's by 6 goals to 2. W.F.C.A. beat the Technical School team, at Palmerston North, yesterday, by 2 goals (scored by Dixon and Parkes) to nil.
