&In a desultory discussion respecting finances it appeared to be admitted that a large reduction must be effected in the expenditure oil roads during the current year. For the past few years the expenditure on roads and bridges has exceeded the income available for such work, the cost of roads during 1908-9 being over £2,100, whilst the General Rates received come to about £I2OO. The overseer handed in his resignation. —This in the circumstances was accepted with regret, and a 'desire expressed to place on record the Council's appreciation of his services while in its employment; also that he be asked whether his services will be available for any special work that the Council may wish him to undertake. Accounts amounting to £265 7s lid were passed for payment.
