KACINtf. OTAKI-MAORI RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 3. The Otaki Maori Racing Club's Winter Meeting opened in dull weather to-day. Fifteen bookmakers were licensed, and the sum of £9,874 passed through the total iaator, against £10,086 for the corresponding day last year. Results:— Flying Hack Handicap.—Te Kahurangi 1, Pukewai 2, Te Ru 3. Also started —North East, Leahora, Waiata, Buoyant,' Brilliancy, Miss Vera, Merry Christmas, Prevail, Matira, Swallow, Inverau. Te Kahurangi led throughout and won by a bare half length. Time, lmin 16 3-ssec. Second Hack Hurdles—Taiura 1, j Kendrock 2, Diplomatic 3. Also started—Mount Cook, Polyanthus, Papatawa, Erl King, Chicane, Tokaroa, Peregrine, Lothair and Canadian. Tauira took charge passing the stand and was not afterwards headed, winning comfortably by six lengths. Time, 2min 49sec, Raukawa Cup- Sir Tristram 1, Kopu 2, Mabuta 3. Also started — Tangimoana, Waitapu, Roosevelt, Effort, Maiora, Lady Lucy, Silken Rein, Gaelic, Kurawaka, Astraea. Roosevelt and Effort cut out the running, being joined by Silken Rein half a mile from home. They ran prominently to the bend, where Mahuta and Sir Tristram joined in. Halfway down the latter took charge and won comfortably by two lengths, Mahuta a length away. Maiora was left at the post and took no part in the race. Time, 2mm 11 2-ssec. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 33 2-ssec. Rangiuru Handicap—Gipsy Belle 1; Sunlonnet 2, Overtime 3. Also started—Ballarat, Woodhey, Waikaraka, Iranui, Seaman, Simplex, Toa Tuhi, Pohutu, Mataari, Nicotine. Won comfortably by two lengths. Time, lmin 15 l-ssec.
