A quiet wedding was celebrated at Knox Church, yesterday, when Miss Janet Devonport, daughter of Mr George Henry Devonport, of Masterton, was married to Mr Wilfrid Harold Shute, of Masterton. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A» T, Thompson. Mr W. McLaren, who sustained a broken thigh through injuries re-. r eeived in connection with a buggy accident, at Mangamahoe, a few weeks ago. is still 1 confined in the Cornwall Street Private Hospital. He is making very satisfactory progress; towards recovery, but it will be some j time before he is able to leave the j institution.

Captain A. Miller, of the Blenheim Fire Briagde, has tendered his resignation. He is a strong advocate of Fire Boards, and it is stated that he did not care to work any longer under the old system —in fact he resigned as a protest. Captain Miller is well known in Masterton in Fire Brigade matters, having passed every rank in the Brigade, starting from messenger. He was also chief engineer for years.

A somewhat serious accident occurred to Mr J. Shaw, Mauriceville. on Wednesday last. He was riding a horse over some hills on the property of Mr D. Rutherford, when the animal slipped down a somewhat steep embankment, throwing the rider heavily against a fence. Mr Shaw sustained severe injuries to his right arm, and he was subsequently removed to Mrs private hospital in Cornwall Street. He is being attended by Dr. Archer Hoskjr.g. and is progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected.
