Wednesday. 1 WEDDING. 1 A pretty wedding was celebrated J I ;St. Peter's Church, this morning I I the Rev. Isaacson, when Miss 1 Ithel Alice Croad, eldest daughter I EMr H. Croad, of Ballance, was J larried to Mr Thomas William Jones, 1 Idest son of Mr Thomas Jones, also | E Ballance. The bride was hand- 1 Dmely dressed in crepe de chene with | directories sash and wore the orthoox veil and orange blossoms, and arried a shower bouquet. She was ittended by Miss Janes, dressed in ilk muslin, and Misses Clarice Jroad and Dolly Harris, who wore ream taffeta. Mr D. Jones acted as ,est man, and Mr B. Croad as jroomaman. After the ceremony the brida »arty and guest 3 were driven out to 1 Jallance, were a sumptuous wedding, jreakfast was partaken of in the Sallance Hall. Mr and Mrs Jones left >n their honeymoon trip to Nap er by ;he afternoon express. Both the parents of the bride and bridegroom are highly respected residents in Balance, Mr Croad having resided there £or over 21 years. / GENERAL. A football mstch has been arranged at Woodille to-morrow (Thursday) between a team from Mangatainoka and a Woodville team. A deputation from the Kairanga County Council waited on the Borough Council, this afternoon, and asked what moral support the Pahiatua Borough would accord to the scheme for bridging the Manawatu mver at the end of the PahiatuaPalmerston Road.- The deputation received a favourable reply. Mr W. Tosswill informs me that about three inches of rain fell during the month of May, rain falling on 14 days. Mention was made the other day of -the likelihood of another Ladies' Hockey Club being formed in this town. Since then another club has been formed with Miss 0. Oxley as captain; and Miss Spillane as secretary. Practises will bs,started at ■once, the first taking place to-mor-row in Mr Geo. Oxley's paddock. There was a good attendance of firemen at the wet practise held last -evening. A meeting was held in the brigade shed room afterwards, when ;a donation of two guineas, the result of the recent social inaugurated by the ladies, was received from the secetary, Miss Mcßratney. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lady helpers. Arrangements for the Brigade's Art Union are also well in hand. The Hon. A. W. Hogg arrived by the express train to-day, and several prominent men from the back districts are also' in town intending to bo present at , the social to be ten- • ered to Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., this evening. As several of the Nireaha players i have made arrangements to come to Pabiatua on Saturday it has been decided to nlay, the Nireaha-Pahiatua football match on the local ground. The Konini team to play against Hamua on the former's ground on Saturday as is follows:—Smith (3), Stewart .(2)., "Hirst (2), Bain, FarTell, Gregory, Hawkes, Henry, Reeve and Singers. jgMessrs Abraham and, Williams, Ltd., report having a good yarding of cattle, and a fair yarding of sheep at their P.F.A. sale yesterday. Sheep were somewhat dull, but cattle seld at late rates as follows:—15month steers, £2 3s 6d; 2-year steers, £3 3s; bulls, £2 16s to £3; speyed cows', £3 16s; store cows, £2 s; fat cows, £4 Is to £4 14s; springing heifers, £5 10s; weaner heifers, 1%; cows in calf, £2 6s to £2 15s; cow«i at drop, £5 12s 8d; springing covvr?, £Q 2s Gd.
