TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT.
In speaking at the Farmers' Union Conference dinner, at Auckland, Mr W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, said that the new Pailiament was better than the old one, but the trouble was that they had too muen Government, and not enough Parliament, inasmuch as the Government was inclined to usurp the functions of Parliament. At the present time there were such important subjects as retrenchment, Civil Service reorganisation, and the defence of New Zealand waiting to be dealt with, and Parliament should proceed to do this work. Like all farmers, he remarked, he was an Imperialist to his finger tip 3, but it was not because he had any desire to make money out of it.
