SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
RED STARvy;; LOWER'VALLEY. The match between the Red Star and Lower Valley seniors was played at Carterton. The northern I team held the upper hand all through the game, and it was only on rare occasions, that Lower Valley were really dangerous. The latter team I were strong in defence, and but for ! thb fact would have had a much larger score piled up against them. Quaine and Cowan were particularly noticeable tor their fine collaring.. The southern team possessed a fast i dashing lot of forwards, who would at times overcome the opposing for- ' wards and sweep down the field, only : to be sent back by the gdoa kicking I of the opposing backs. Red Star but | LowerjValley on the other hand did
I not gain any great advantage through [obtaining the ball, as they were somewhat weak in attack, and their opponents' collaring was sure. The only score in the first spell was a try obtained by N. Chamberlain, who ran right round the opposition and scored under the posts. The kick at goal was a failure. In the second half Red Star put on nine Triore"' points, while Lower Valley failed" to score. Rv'Welch and Minett'scored tried,-'-and Fi'<B'all kicked a goal fro ma mark obtained by C. Ross. Ked Star thus won-by twelve points' io nil. -Red Stars" attempts at goal kicking were very poor. Mr !iD. McKerizie cohtr6lled the game in his usual 'impartial manner.' 1, ' ' ' ■■'-'•■ ''■■'■'■- '■ ■ '■■
