UNIVERSAL MILITARY TRAINING.

MR McNAB'S VISIT.

The committee appointed at the meeting convened by the local branch of the National Defence League to make arrangements in connection with Mr McNab's address in the Town Hall on June Ist, on "Universal Military Training," met in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last evening. There were present:—Messrs R. Brown (in the chair), and '• Messrs M. C. O'Connell, J. Hun|er, W. H. Jackson, H. C. Robinson, Dr P. R. Cook, G. Hyde, and the secretary, Mr H. M. Boddington. Lieut.-Colonei Tate, of Greytown, also attended the meeting, and was unanimously appointed to the com-

mittee. On the motion of Mr W. H. Jackson, it was decided that the secretary be authorised to request the services i of the Municipal Band for the evening of the lecture. Messrs J. Hunter and the secretary were appointed to make arrangements for the supply, of flags and stage decorations. Lieut-Colonel Tate said he would like the meeting made as one emanating from the whole Wairarapa, and not from Masterton alone. He suggested that the Mayors and chairmen of the local bodies from Eketabuna to Martinboiough be added to the committee. This would strengthen the, movement and the attendance would consequently be a

representative one. Mr M. C. O'Connell brought up the matter of defraying the expenses in connection with the meeting. Mr Robinson moved that the members of the committee contribute 5s towards defraying the expenses, which was seconded by Mr G. Hyde and carried. It was decided that the dress circle be reserved for ladies and their escorts. The matter of entertaining Mr McNab was discussed, , and it was decided, should circumstances permit, that the committee entertain him at luncheon. Arrangements for same wera left in the hands of Mr M. C. O'Connell and the secretary. Mr Robinson moved that the Mayors of the various municipalities in the Wairarapa be written to, asking them to make the fact of the lecture as widely known as possible. The motion wa's carried.
