FARMERS' UNION.
THE NEW EXECUTIVE FOR WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL BRANCH.
The election of the new executive and the other officers of the Wellington Provincial District of the Farmers' Union took place at the conference at Eketahuna yesterday. Mr J. G. Wilson was re-elected unopposed to the office of President, a position he has held since the Union was formed eight years ago. Various speakers referred in highly eulogistic terms to the splendid services ren-! dered by the President to the farming industry throughout the Dominion, by the example he had set in assiduously promoting the interests of the Union during his long tenure of office. One speaker, Mr T. Moss, of Eketahuna, suggested that Mr Wilson would be an invaluable member of the Upper House, though he would be averse to the President's appointment to that if it meant the loss of his services to the Union. (Loud
applause). Mr Wilson, in returning thanks, said he grealy appreciated the kindly remarks made. He smilingly commented that perhaps Mr Moss was not altogether kind in his remarks re the Upper House, judging by some of the appointments made to that Chamber.
The following other officers were elected:—Vice-President, Mr J. C. Cooper, Tane (re-elected); Treasurer, Mr A. E. Russell, Palmerston N. (re elected); Executive, Messrs W. J. Birch, Marton; J. 0. Bidwill, Featherston; Ewan Campbell, Wanganui; J. H. Escott, Woodville; Capt. Hewitt, Palmerston N.; F. Hdckley. Hunterville; W. B. Matheson, Rongomai; T. Mosa, Eketahuna; J. R. McLennan, Waituna West; D. MfGregor, junr., Masterton; H. A. Nivens, Tenui (re-elected); Hector Booth, Feilding; 0. P. Lynch, Paraparaumu; Prov. Secretary, W. Hunter, Palmerston North. Messrs E. Campbell, of Wanganui, and W. B. Matheson.of Eketahuna, were appointed as conference delegates to the next New Zealand Conference. The members of the Executive are also eligible to attend the conference.
