'Anted Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received May 24, 10 p.m. PARIS, May 24.

The attempt to launch the French battleship Danton (1»,300 tons) at Brest was unsuccessful. Powerful tugs failed to move the vessel. The French Naval Commission has recommended the Government to raise the number of battleships to 38, and favors fast scouting cruisers instead of armoured vessels. The Commission emphasises the need of destroyers and submarines, and recommends the laying down in 1910 of of 21,000 tons, having a speed of 21 knots.
