THE MAORI COUNCILS.

The reorganisation of the Maori Councils of the Dominion is almost complete, and the re-election of all but one Council is over, states the Hon. A. T. Ngata. All these Councils have had their first meetings, and already reports sent in by some of them show great improvement, and there is greater activity amongst the committees which are responsible for carrying out the by-laws made by the Councils, One noticeable feature is the manner in which the dog tax is being collected. There is a marked improvement in the control ol drunkenness and prevention of the introduction of liquor into Maori settlements or at Maori meetings.
