CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Saturday. This morning three young deer were forwarded from here to Masterton, where they will be kept for a while on the Acclimatisation Society's grounds, and will later nn he liberated near EUetahuna. Miss Tilson, of Ponatahi, hand-reared one of the animals, and the other two were looked after by children at the Admiral. A donation of trees, and 5s in cash, has already been received towards the beautifying of Carrington Park on Arbor Day. There is no doubt that more trees are required on the Park, but it looks as if the present movement will not materially assist the objects, unless a little more enthusiasm is put into it. The unsettled weather here is interfering somewhat with threshing operations, About trii-ty boys are attending t; 8 Clareville Maori College at present. This is the full number that can be accommodated. Ther? are other pupils anxiously waiting for vacancies, Wairarapa lads, of course, having the preference. The Rev. H. T. Stealey is Principal of the School. Mr F. Mason, of th-: Taueru School, will take up the duties of Headmaster of the Dalefield School on June Ist, when Mr J. M. Beechey will remove to Clareville to take charge of the school there.
