j (By "All Black,") WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. SATURDAY'S FIXTURES. The championship fixtures of the Wairarapa Rugby Union were continued on Saturday last, in fine weather, though the grounds were hcavy'owing to the recent rain. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. RED STAR v. CARTERTON. The match between the Carterton [ and Red Star seniors was played at Carterton, considerable interest being j taken in the match. The game was 1 keenly contested, and though Carterton won, it was a lucky win. , Carterton's score was made up of a try and two potted goals, whi e Red Star scored two tries .(one being awarded for deliberate obstruction on the part of a L.a?terton player). One of the potted goals (that of Masson's) should not have been allowed, as the ball went fully a foot outside the post. Lack of combination cost the visitors two certain scores. The forwards were evenly matched, Red Star excelling in forward rushes, while Carterton secured the ball most in the scrums. The line out work of both teams was fairly good. In the first spall C. Groube scored first Wood by potting a goal for Carterton, while towards the close N. Chamberlain scored for Red Star from a pretty passing rush, no goal resulting. There was no further score in the spell. In the second half Henderson

scored a try for Carterton, from a forward rush* and shortly after the home team was awarded a goal for a kick by Masson, though the ball, as previously stated, went outside the post. The visitors then rallied, and kept Carterton busy defending for .some lime, eventually being awarded a try for obstruction on the part of one of the home players.
