FOOTBALL. PAHIATUA v. KONINI. On the Recreation Ground, this afternoon, the Pahiatua and Konini Senior teams met. The. ground.was order, but the game was confined principally to the forwards, and no brilliant passing rushes were witnessed on either side. Shortly after play started, G. Smith had a futile shot at goal .from a penalty. Forward rushes were much in evidence on both sides, the leather going -up and down the field, scrums being frequent near each line, each side striving to score. Towards the end of the first spell, Fairbrother by good following up scored for Pahiatua near the corner flag. D, Yule failed with the kick. Konini then livened up and penned Pahiatua on their line for fully five minutes, but could not score. From the start of_the second spell Konini took the ball well into Pahiatua territory, the latter forcing twice. Give and take play followed for some time, free kicks and scrums being numerous. Pahiatua then rushed the ball to the Konini line, but the good defence of the latter saved a score. Towards the end of the spell Pahiatua seemed to]lag, and Konini with one of their old time rushes swept down the field. S. Smith sent the ball out to H. Hirst, who was enabled to score, G. Smith adding the major points. Almost immediately afterwards .[Hawkes and Benge became associated in another dribbling rush, and the latter scored under the posts, G. Smith having no difficulty in kicking a goal. There ■was no further score during the remainder of the match. The game thus ended: Konini, 10; Pahiatua, 3. The game taken all through was a very even one, up till the last fifteen minutes, when Konini had much the best of the play. Benge, Hawkes, Smith (2) and Bain, played good games for the winners, while for Pahiatua Swainson, Reeves, Weaiherley, G. Yule and D. Yule, were conspicuous for good work. D. Yule played a sterling game at half-back. Mr Chatwin was referee. MANGATAINOKA v. HAMUA. On the .Domain, at Mangatainoka, , this afternoon; the local team scored an easy win over Hamua by 21 points to nil. Hamua only had a poor team

in the field. Mangatainoka played a splendid game, and scored at every opportunity. Mr George Smith was referee. The Pahiatua Schoolboys' second fifteen, to-day, defeated Scarborough Schoolboys, by 26 points to 3 points.
