LONDON WOOL SALES.

CLOSED FIRM AT TOP PRICES. LONDON, May 21. The wool sales have closed firm, at top prices of the seri=s. Received May 24, 1.5 a.m. LONDON, May 23. • The wool ca f alogued totalled 179,500 bales. Home buyers bought 88,000 bales, Continental 61,000, and American 23,000 bales. Ten thousand bales were held over. Comparcfi wiih thf Afarch closing, best greasy Merinos, suitable for America, advanced 10 to 15 per cent, average sorts fully 7 \ per cent., good seppedp 73, to 10 per cent. £**_****

Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Wellington, have received the following eable'advice from their London office,' under date 21st inst.:—"The'wooJ salsa closed firm, and lately reported rates are fully maintained, As compared with the closing rates of series, g#ad greasy combing wools are 10 pef £§nt| higher; other del scriptions of merino wools 1 , greasy, 5 to 7h per cent, higher, except short and faulty descriptions, a change, if any, being in sellers' favour. Fine and medium crossbreds are 10 per cent, higher. If wools are suitable for America, price's are higher by 15 to 20 per cent. Coarse crossbreds hava advanced 7£ per cent. The total net quantity of wool available for sale amounted to 182,000 bales, of which 23,000 bales have been taken by America; 88,000 bales have been sold for Home consumption, and 61,000 bales to the Continent, leaving 10,000 bales carried forward."

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the followingcable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 22nd May:—"The wool sales closed with a keen competition. The strong American buying helped the Home and European markets The woollen trade is good, no stock accumulating. Prospeqta are favourable. Estimated value according to condition:— Superior merino, Is Id to Is 3£d; lljd to Is id; inferior, 9d to lid; fine crossbreds, all grades, Is Id to Is 4|d; medium crossbreds,all grades, 10& d to Is 2d; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 7£d to Is.
