CHARGES AGAINST CONSTABLES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 22. The hearing of charges of assault agai.ist Gardiner and Watson, two constables, was resumed in the. Magistrate's Court to-day, Inspector Ellison, who conducted the prosecution, said that on the night of May 10th three constables in plain clothes had a dispute, and were scuffling in the street,
Mr and Mrs Rolfe remonstrated with the defendants lor attacking the third constable, Clay, whereupon, it is alleged," the defendants struck Mr and Mrs Rolfe and knocked Mrs Rolfe down.
James Asbury and William O'Neill, seamen on the steamer Kaipara, gave evidence that they saw the defendants scuffling and subsequently saw the defendants striking at Mr and Mrs Rolfe. As Mrs Rolfe is still unable to appear the case was adjourned till May 31st.
