The Board of Trade of Ottawa has presented to the Australasian Press delegates an address emphasising the need of State-owned Empire cables. Mr R. Mr J. W. Kirwan, of Kalgoorlie., Westralia and Mr Mark Cohen, of the Dunedin "Star," were among the chief speakers at luncheon given by the Hon. Frank Oliver, Minister of the Interior.

On their arrival at Montreal the delegates were entertained by the city Board of Trade at luncheon, and by the newspaper proprietors at a banquet.

Mr Thomas, South Australia, in an interview, stated: "We proppse to protect ourselves and our region, bat we are not less determined to help the Mother Country to Navy to the highest point of strength. It is certain that in the coming session of the Commonwealth Parliament our relations with the Empire in regard to defence will be the foremost subject."
