PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). j Friday. ! A Ballance resident informed ine to-day that the people of that district were very pleased to see the County Council's road grader out their way this morning,-after an absence of about two years, and they honed to have their roads well rounded up before the wet weather sets in. The ford over the Malum river, known as Tylee's ford, was finished to-day. This ford has been unsafe for traffic for some time, and the repairing of it will be a great boon to the residents of Maknri, as well as shortening the road to Pongaroa. Mr C. Evans, who has been connected with the firm of Ilaro and Evans, land agents, is leaving this town, to rejoin the well-known firm of Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Mr Evans will represent the firm in Feilding. He will carry away with him gcod wishes for his future prosperity from quite a host of friends that he has made since his arrival in Pahiatua. Mr Evans was one of the gentlemen who helped to form the PahiatuaAkitio A. and P. Association. The Ground Committee of the Pahiatua Racing Club inspected the course this morning, and io have the wet portions of the course thoroughly drained. They report that the course is looking in first-class order, and every facility is being given to the Woodlands Hunt Club, by the Racing Club, so that their annual steeplechase meeting in August will be an assured success. Somewhere about 900 lambs have been fattened on the rape crops on the Club's property this season. Messrs Dalgety a.id Co. add several fresh entries to their sale on Tuesday next, amongst them being ten working bullocks, gear, bullock dray and waggon, on behalf of the executors in the estate of the late H. Thomas. M*E. C. Murphy, of Waione, today, sold hJ3 farm of 111 acres freehold with all the stock thereon, to Mr Robieson of Masterton, the sale being effected by Mr W. Inglis Husband, land agent, of this town. MANGATAINOKA NEWS. The Mangatainoka Cheese Factory is now running every other day, and the manager, Mr Patterson, expects to close down for the season about the middle of next month. So far this season about 170 tons of Cheese have been manufactured, which is about 50 tons mure than the total output for last season. The average test for the last month was abou 4.9, the highest being 5.9. The output is shipped direct Home, and the average grade for this seasan is about 90J. Owing to the splendid autumn there ia still an abundance of feed in this district. ,A social in aid of St. Mark's Church will be held in the Library Hall on Monday evening. The milk supply at the local butter factory owned by the flawke's Bay Dairy Company is decreasing, but the manager, Mr Luke, states that he expects to run the factorv on alternate days right through the winter. Thirty-nine boxes are at present being manufactured every other day, and the butter is all made up in single pounds for local consumption, throughout the Dominion. Owing to several small cheese factories starting in the vicinity of Dannevirke, the Dannevirke factory will be run as a creamery only, and the cream sent to the Mangatainoka factory. To cope with the extra cream, two combined churns and workers are to be put in during this winter. The Main road between the Mangatainoka bridge and the Manawatu bridge has just received a good coat of metal.
