PRESS CONFERENCE.
BANQUET TO DELEGATES, Received, ii a y 19, 9.5 p . mv OTTAWA, May 19. There was great enthusiasm 2* th 9 banquet at Toronto, tendered to tht Press delegates. The Lieut.-Govern-or (Colonel Morrison-Gibson) pre--sided. Sir J. Whitney (Premier of Ontario) extended the Freedom of Ontario to the delegates, and said tint the colonies had awakened from'their lethargy'to the. realisation of their relations with tpe Empire. Mr Cunningham, editor of thg "Melbourne Argus." spoke in favour of "closer relations between Cinad:i and Australia. Mr Fenwick (New Zealand) said the coming conference ought to strive to solidly strengthen the bonds of the Empire. Mr Gresley Lukin (New Zealand) referred to the necessity of the British Dominions being able to l?rgely defend themselves. He was enthusiastically cheered when he alluded to New Zealand's offer of a Dreadnought. Mr Thomas urged closer 1 trade relations between Canada and Australia. All the speakers favoured better cable and'mail facilities.
