TARANAKI PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. 'STRATFORD, May 19. The Taranaki Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union was held here to-day. Resolutions were passed asking for better railway facilities for trucking fat stock; requesting the Parliamentary regulation of the speed of motor cars; deprecating the purchase of private estates by the Government while so much waste land is awaiting settlement; protesting against the system of taxing farmers on unimproved values, and again3t continued increases being made by the Valuation Departm3nt on the unimproved values of rural lands, and urging the more effective carrying out of the Noxious Weeds Act, and greater secrecy of the ballot. Mr J. W. Jones was elected President.
