FIRE AT ORIENTAL BAY.
TWO FIREMEN. INJURED. By Telegraph—Press 'Association. . WELLINGTON, May 17. Three],houaes in Oriental Bay were destroyed by fire this afternoon. The outbreak started in a twostorey dwelling owned and occupied by A. B. Pownall, manager of th e Yorkshire Insurance Company, and was caused'through clothes being ignited by a spark from a fire. The flames spread to a seven-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mrs Kate O'Bricm. This was destroyed* as also was, «* seven-roomed house occupied by Mir McLean, and owned by Mr Henry- Salter. The adjoining: premises occupied by Captain O'Neill, andi owned by Henry Salter were damaged. Foreman W. McLean, of the : Newtown Brigade, and Fireman J. Briggs, of the Wellington Brigade,, were struck by falling bricks. Briggs had his back .injured, and is, now in the hospital. McLean was also injured in. the back* and is laid up at 1 the Brigade Station. Yet another accident happened, a schoolboy, named Bowden, six years old, being I run over by the fire motor/and having a thigh fractured.
