Y.M.C.A.

The Board of Management of the Masterton Young Men's Christian is bringing under the notice of citizens the present requirements of the Institution. While it is more than ever meeting the needs* of the young men of this town, and increasing in usefulness and popularity,, the revenue derived from ordinary subscriptions is quite inadequate to meet the expenditure involved. In ordefto overcome this difficulty and placa the Association on a solid financial basis, it has been decided to obtain one hundred honorary members willing to contribute not less than £1 Is per annum towards the general funds. In all departments of the Association's work thero id a marked increase of interest shown. The physical culture classes have a membership of over thirty, and splendid progress is being made under the instruction of Mr R. O. Jarrett. The elocution class has finished its session, and the Literary and Debating Society WillTnow commence its winter programme.. The coming session, which promises to be a most interesting and instructive one, will in elude the popular "Parliamentary evenings," and the annual debate with the Wellington Y.M.C.A. will be held in Masterton this year. Improvements are being made in the social and recreative branches, so that the Rooms shou d speedily become a popular rendezvous for young men. The Sunday gatherings are meeting with much encouragement, while the boys' work is a most important feature, which should commend itself to parents. . In soliciting support it will be recognised that the Association is doing good work, and it is anticipated that a ready response will be made to the appeal to citizens to provide for the physical, intellectual, social and moral welfare of the young men of the community.
