The speeches of the witnesses tor the prosecution lauded the services of Azeff, the police spy, and fiercely denounced Lopukin. When Lopukin endeavoured to --speak the President of the Court continually interrupted him until accused was silenced, a Lopukin ended his remarks by stating: "The Czar would have eventually fallen a victim to Azeff. You may convict me, but I acted in, -the interests of humanity."
