MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tne ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. There were present:—Mr P. L. Hollings (Mayor), Crs J. Yarr, J. Prentice, J. C. Ewington, W. Pragnell, R. Rigg, T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, and Jas. Elliott. Mr L. J. Hooper wrote with reference to the dispute between the Council and himself in respect to the property owned by Mrs D. J. Cameron and leased by him. It was stated that when Johnston street was widened there was an arrangement made with the Council to the effect that in consideration of the owner giving the land and the creek there should not be any water rate charged upon the property so long as it was leased to him for grazing purposes, and that the Council should provide a drinking trough for his stock. --* The matter wa« A '~ , , .. ■ O V -■» «- - discussed, and it ' "111 uecided to rebate the amount asked. The Managers of the Masterton Technical School wro,te asking for a -rant in aid of the maintenance of the School. __ _.. It was decided to grant a similar sum to that granted last year. An application for assistance to> the funds of th2 Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society was not entertained by the Council. Cr Ewington brought up the matter of the conference of looal bodies interested in the severance of the Wairarapa from the Welling-, ton Charitable Aid Board. Several of the local bodies had been approached, and had appointed delegates to attend the conference. The Mayor and Cr Ewington wera appointed to represent the Council at the conference.
