MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee met yesterday morning. There were present: —Crs C. Kehbell (chairman), J. Miller, W. J. Welch, D. W. Foreman, .H. Toogood, and A. Murray. The Treasurer's report showed—Bank, General Account, dr., £1,254 6s lid; Local Bodies Loans Account, £1,393 15s 6d; receipts since April Ist, .1909, £2,552 15s 2d. The County Chairman (Cr W. J. 'Welch) reported verbally that he rhad secured some of the signatures to the plan of the proposed widening of the Upper Plain road, and had handed it over to Mr D. McGregor to secure such of the remainder as it was possible to obtain. Also that Mr R. D. Dagg's physical condition was such that .-procuring his signature was out of the question, and that Mr Attenborrow had instructed that it was inconvenient at present to have the •cottage on his land moved back, and he now preferred to receive -compensation. Cr Welch considered the sum asked, £3O, to be exces--sive. He proposed to move in the -matter at the Council meeting.
COUNCIL MEETING. At the monthly meeting of Councillors there were present:—Crs W. J. vWelch (chairman). D. Foreman, J. rMiller, R. Beetham, C. Kebbell, A. •Murray, W. H. Toogood and J. Coliquiioun. Mr Laing-Meason waited on the Council and submitted a report on the progress of the construction of the Opaki-Lansilowne water supply scheme, the report being adopted. A letter was received from Mr S. •Attenburrow, claiming £3O compensation for his frontage required for the proposed widening of Upper Tlain road. It was decided that the matter be .left in the hands of the representatives of the riding and the engineer, and failing a satisfactory arrangement the land be taken by proclamavtion. Mr E. W. Payton wrote drawing mention to the damage to the road by Te Mara'creek. The matter was left in the hands of Cr Foreman and the Engineer, -with power to act.
Mr,A. Wilton wrote drawing attention to dangerous angles in the road to Tanglewood. It was decided that the engineer rgubmit a report at the next meeting on the matter. Mr Jno. Townsend wrote asking if the Council was prepared to renew the lease of cottage "and land at Taneru. Ha was prepared to renew for five years on the same terms as
now. On the motion of Cr Toogood, seconded by Cr Beetham, it was decided to renew the lease. The Castlspoint County Council stating that they had decided to co-operate wiih the Masterton Council in tha matter of dissenting from the demand made by the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board in respeat to the inclusion of £I,BOO on that body's estimates for mai -tsnanoi of the Victoria Hospital. They were willinc to pay a pro rata share of the cost of attending the enquiry. Communciations from numerous other local bodies were received in connection with the matter. Cr C. Kebbell .forwarded a letter .he had received ceorttaimwr a complaint as to damage that was being done to Baker's road through metal being carted over it. Hon. A. W. Hogg wrote with reference to loan applications from the Council under the Government Loans '43 -Local Bodies Act. He had referred the matter to the Colonial Treasurer fjr information.
The Valuer-General forwarded revised valuation roll for the Rangitumau riding for public inspection. The District of Auckland Hospital Board forwarded a list-of recipients of relief. The Treasury wrote advising that >the fallowing grants were available: —fhuraua bridge, £300; East Coast 'jroad, £l4O. The Treasury also notified that the -.,£6,300 loan money for Weraiti-Ferny-hurst Road was available. On the motion of Cr Toogood, seconded by Cr Beetham, it was decided that the engineer be in- • structed to have the old cutting at Liverton's, Carswell's, widened six vfeet.
