Pinkney will be pleased to learn that his wife has undergone a most successful operation at the Masterton Hospital, and there is now a marked improvement in her condition. Mr T. Humphries, ex-Surveyor-Gensral, was yesterday afternoon presented by ihe Prime Minister, on > behalf of "the officers of the Land / and Sjn-ey Department of New Zenand. with a ir.arlc of esteem on his retirement a'ter fil years' service. Mr Andrew Selkirk, a descendant of Alexander Selkirk, who was the original of Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe," has died at Cowdenheath, Fife. He was a-i engineer by trade, and had himself lh-ed a roving and adventurous life. He travelled extensively iii Australia and New Zealand, taking part in the early rushes to tfce gol j diggings. Mr F. G. H. Moore has been appointed to conduct the examinatiois for the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music in Australia. Mr Miore left London by the China on April 29th, and ia expected to arrive in Duneriin about June 9th, w'.iere he intends making a short stay before entering upon his official duties in Australia.
