CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Friday. The funeral of the lata Mr Thomas Harp took place at the Clareville Cemetery this afternoon, the cortege being a representative one. The cortege was headed by the brethren of Court Marquis of Normanby. Many beautiful wreaths covered the casket, and services were hsld at the house and graveside. Bro. R. ' J. C.ispm n con Jucted the Foresters' I service, and the Rev. L. Thompson j the Presbyterian Church service. I Messrs T. S. Arcus, R. G. Welch, and M. T. ,West have made donations to the f'mds of the Dalefield Hockey Club. Nominations cIoSS to-morrow for the office of Mayor, and the six vacancies on the Borough Council. The following nominations have so far been received:—Mayor, Mr Adam •Armstrong; Councillors, Messrs W. T. Masson, C. J. Smith, W. Whyte, J. A. Dudson, W. W. Mansfield, and T. J. Rathbone.
The Wairarapa Thursday Rugby j Union'was to have met last evening, but only the three bcal delegates put in an appearance. Masterton and Featherston were not represented. Last evening a Presbyterian visitation was held in St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. J. McCaw, of Maryborough, presiding. The Rev. Chalmers Mills, of Pahiatua; J. K. Stowell. of Greytown; A. T. Thompson of Masterton; L. Thompson, of Carterton; Messrs G. M. Ross, E. Feist, G. McGregor, and H. McFarlane were also present. The workings o£ the year were discussed, and satisfaction expressed upon the progress made I during the year.
