k A BY-ELECTION. LABOUR VICTORY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyrih'i-.t. Received May 5, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, May 5. The by-election for the Attercliffe division of Sheffield, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr B, Langley, o.i the ground of illhealth, resulted as follows: — Pointer. Labourite 3,531 Farlow, Official Unionist 3,380 Lambert, Liberal 3,175 Muir Wilson, Independent Unionist (who objected to the selection of an outsider) 2,803 The Labourites attribute the victory, besides the 'lory split, to the serious unemployment in Attercliffe and the'consistent Labourite advocacy of the Right to Work Bill. The Liberals are deeply disappointed over the result. SOUTH AFRICAN UNION. THE SECOND CONVENTION. Received May 5, 8.20 a.m. CAPETOWN, May 4. The second South African Union Convention has opened at Bloemfontein, Orange River Colony. The proceedings are being conducted with closed doors.
