HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 3. The following is the High Commissioner's cable dated London, May Ist: "The.mutton market remains v.ery depressed. Prices have slightly declined for all grades with the exception of light weight. "The lamb market is very dull, and the supply is excessive. Stock is accumulating, and there is very little prospect ot an advance in the market for either mutton or lamb. "The beef market is steady, and there is a better demand,_but the supply meets the demand. >j Hinds are quoecl at 3§d and fores at 2£d. "The butter market is quiet but firm. There is a better demand, especially for the best quality. £Tha choicest New Zealand is quoted at 100s per cwt, Danish at 108s, Australian at 98s, Argentine at 98s, and Siberian at 965. "The cheese market is steady, and there is not much demand but prices are firm. White makes are quoted at 60s 6d and coloured at 62s 6d. "The hemp market is quiet and small business is doing and r:o immediate change is expected. Reports indicate that heavy shipments of hemp are expected from Manila. Good fair New Zealand is quoted on the spot at £23 5s per ton, fair grade at £22, fair current Manila on the spot at £2l 10s; May-Ju!y shipments, New Zealand good fair grade at £23, fair grade at £2l 10s, and fair current Manila at £2l ss. "The cocksfoot market is quiet, but steady. The demand is improving, but prices are unchanged at 80s. "The wheat market is quiet, but holders are firm, and there is less demand and buyers are holdng back. New Zealand berried wheat "on the dpot ex-granary, per quarter of 4961b, is quoted at 44s 6d; New Zealand short berried wheat on the spot, ex-granary, per quarter of 4961b5, at 43s "The wool market is firm, and prices continue to advance. Bradford tops are quoted as follows:—36's, low crossbeds, ll|d; 40's, low crossbreds, Is Ofd; 44's, medium crossreds,! Is ljd; 50's, halfbreds. Is 6d; 56's, quarterhreds. Is 9rl: 60's, merinos, 2s 2d.
