IMPORTANT PROPOSAL. SUGGESTED IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. <Tnitea;Pres3 Association-By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received April 29, 8.45 a.m. LONDON, April 28. The Cabinet is considering a proposal to hold an Imperial Naval Conference in 1919, in accordance with the suggestion made recently by Mr Asquith in a speech at Glasgow. Speaking without consulting his colleagues, Mr Asquith, in his Glasgow speech, suggested the possibility of a conference between the colonies and the Mother Country regarding their future respective shares in the great independent work of naval defence.
THE TWO-POWER SfANDARD. DOES NOT APPLY TO AMERICA. STATEMENT BY MR M'KENNA. Received April 29, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, April 28. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Mr M'Kenna, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated, on behalf of Mr Asquith, that for all practical purposes the American Navy did not enter into the Government's calculations regarding the two-Power standard.
