EMPIRE DEFENCE.
NEEDS OP THE NAVY. FIRST LORD HECKLED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright i Received April 28, 8.20 a.m. LONDON, April 27. The Right Hon. R. McKenna, First Lord of the Admiralty, in reply to questions in the House of Commons, admitted that there was not a single dry dock on the east coast of Britain where a Dreadnought could enterjf she were drawing more water than usual owing to some of her watertight compartments being fluoded, though there were five docks in Germany with this capacity. He added that the Government was considering the question of constructing three floating docks on the East Coast. Mr M'Kenna was heckled by members on the absence of first-class battleships on the China and Australian stations. In reply, the Minister stated that the Admiralty was expediting the building of the Neptune, which would be launched in August instead of October, thus enabling her successor to be laid down early in November.
