TROUBLE IN TURKEY.
DETHRONEMENT DECIDED UPON. SULTAN'S SAD PLIGHT. STORY OF THE REVOLT. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph Copyrifrhti Received April 28, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, April 27. Reuter's agent at Constantinople reports that the dethronement of the Sulcan has been decided upon, and that Reshad Effendi, the Sultan's brother and legitimate heir, will succeed him.
I Other reports state that the movei ments to dethrone the Sultan was hastened by the discovery that many prisoners were in possession of from £5 to £2O. The Sultan is accused of distributing £300,000 among the garrison. When the Sultan's entourage realised that the situation was serious, the Palace guards dispersed and the Court fled, leaving him alone in his apartments in the Harem. Many of the servants escaped to Asia Minor. Those remaining pillaged the Palace. The Sultan's fortune, which amounts to fifty millions sterling, is invested abroad. It is exp9cted that this will be utilised i.i placing the Turkish finances 0.2 a sound basis. The Sultana stated that the authors of the revolt were Liberals who were adherents of the Decentralisation party, and that they were helped by the Mahometan League. It is suspected that the chief promoters of the plot were the Sultan's favourite son, Burhan-ed-din and the chief eunuch, Nadir Aga.
ACCESSION OF THE NEW SULTAN. ARTILLERY SALUTE. Received April 28, 10 a.m. LONDON, April 27. A report dated Constantinople, 2.30 this afternoon, states that the firing of artillery announces a change of Sultan.
FLIGHT OF SAID PASHA. Received April 28, 10 a.m. CONSTANTINOPLE, April 27. Said Pasha, the reactionary son of Kiamil Pasha, ex-Grand Vizier, is a fugitive. The Sultan's personal guard, after their surrender at the Palace, were conducted, roped together, to the headquarters of the Committee of Enquiry. Soldiers at Erzeroum, in Armenia arrested fifty of their officers.
